We Are Traumatised, Scared -Lagos Flood Victims
Some residents of Abule Egba area of Lagos State have shared their flood-related experiences, citing the impact on their mental health, properties and well-being.
A shop owner, Caroline Ibitoye and her daughter, Ayomide, recounted how the flood waters reached their chests, the scramble for something to hold on to in a bid to avoid being swept away by the flood and being unable to rescue their wares.
Ayomide, who used to enjoy rain, stated that she has become traumatised as any sound or feel of rain scares her now and brings back the memory of the incident.
Another resident, Jamiu Lawal, stated that the flood in the area was caused by water released from the dam in Abeokuta, Ogun State and the unfinished canal in the area. He pleaded with the government to complete the canal to avoid future floods.
